The earthquake that hit Haiti is devastating. Add to the fact that it is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, and they are in desperate need.
It breaks my heart to see so many people dead and so many more that are struggling to live. Being a parent, it hurts even more to see so many children that are in need.
But for many of us, what can we do this far away? As much as I would like to, I can't go there to help.
Well, we can donate money. This will help organized charitable institutions to get the food, water, sanitary kits, supplies, etc. to the people that need help. There are many great institutions out there, but I used LDS Philanthropies because it is easy to donate and 100% of my donation went to help out Haitians, not one cent to the volunteers, etc. here in the US. Click here to donate. And check with your employer, because many match your donation.
The other thing we can do is pray for the people of Haiti. Pray that they will be comforted, pray for the workers to arrive in safety, and pray for others to contribute donations.
Our prayers can make a difference and our loving Heavenly Father is not leaving them alone.
