Remembering 9/11

Today is the ten-year anniversary. It is hard to imagine it has been that long. I can still clearly remember that morning. I was on a run in Provo and a friend passed me on his bike going to school. He briefly said a plane crashed in NYC. He didn't have many details, but there was a sense it was a very big deal.

I got back to the training room and watched the live news on TV. The few of us that were there couldn't believe our eyes. Was this really happening? Why? Who is behind it?

After showering I went to class. We briefly met and were then told all classes were cancelled for the day. I remember watching hours of news coverage in our apartment with my roommates over the next few days. It felt like doing that and praying were all I could do to help. That by watching the news somehow supported those affected by the tragedy. One great blessing was hearing the Prophet's address and The Mormon Tabernacle Choir sing in a special devotional. It was very comforting to have the guidance and support of the Prophet at that time and knowing everything was going to be OK.

It's still hard to think about or dwell on that day. It is our Pearl Harbor. A day that forever changed the world. I hope we never forget those that perished that day, the family members that now have a hole in their lives, and all those that sacrificed to help those in need.

We pray for them and for a more loving and peaceful world.
