So Bradley announced the Preliminary World Cup Roster today. Not too many surprises. I'm just really bummed that Charlie Davies didn't make it. Bradley said they waited until the last minute. I'm thinking that he just really isn't ready to roll, because he is electric. He made a miraculous recovery, but jogging in training is one thing and playing in a world cup is another. We'll look forward to your efforts in 2014 Charlie.
So by June 1st, they will have to drop seven guys for the final roster. With two friendlies before then, they should have a good idea who is ready.
Here is the list. The names noted in red are the people I would not take to South Africa:
Goalkeepers: Tim Howard, Brad Guzan, Marcus Hahnemann
Defenders: Carlos Bocanegra, Oguchi Onyewu, Steve Cherundolo, Jonathan Spector, Jay DeMerit, Clarence Goodson, Jonathan Bornstein, Heath Pearce, Chad Marshall
Midfielders: Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, Michael Bradley, Stuart Holden, Ricardo Clark, Maurice Edu, Benny Feilhaber, Jose Francisco Torres, Alejandro Bedoya, DaMarcus Beasley, Sacha Kljestian, Robbie Rogers
Forwards: Jozy Altidore, Brian Ching, Herculez Gomez, Edson Buddle, Eddie Johnson, Robbie Findley
There are fewer defenders, but I figure that Edu and Beasley can drop back as defenders if needed, so having six options up top (including LandyCakes & Deuce) would be nice.
Go Yanks Go!
